Fall is near! Character studies.

Yay fall is near! It's been awhile since my last post! I'm in a somewhat better mood. I will be doing character design studies(on my own). Since I have been obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog,the character studies will be of him,I'll try to come up with my on style of him. 

Not sure why I'm obsessed with him,but I usually obsess over geeky things.  I guess I like Sonic because of his confident attitude,he's very out going,and cocky,something I'm not. :(

Wow! Drawing skills!

So I was forcing myself to draw today,just doodling and I notice my drawings skills have improved a bit! I have been doing drawing exercises off and on for 2 months(?) now. This has got me a little excited,just a little. It's really hard for to stay motivated,but Im fighting it. 

I have a silight better understand of anatomy,and I forcing my self to draw female anatomy ,which I avoid for some reason....not sure why.

The Drive

I don't know why I keep on drawing...I have a strong desire to improve my drawing skills...but I have no hope of being a professional artist. I lack confidence,and I have other personal flaws stopping me like my people /social phobia . And yet I yet I keep on drawing...I have tried to give up many times. I don't know where I get my inter strength from...

I just thought I'll have a career by now. I guess I have been living in the fantasy world too long...and it time to wake up. I'm never going have my dream job..heck it's now hard for to find a dead end job because of my phobia. Deep down inside I knew I'll never get anywhere,but I buried those thoughts...I'm my own enemy. It's my fault that I haven't made it far..

But I still have the drive to draw,to get better,but why? Who cares anyway?

I'm sorry I haven't upload my video yet..having problems with the laptop..like anyone reads my blogs anyway...

My Sharpie bass

I had some trouble with the video of me drawing on bass guitar. I was able to record some footage of me drawing but not all. Will try to edit and upload tomorrow! Anyway that's Sonic on the pickguard. 

My next video...

My next video is going to be me drawing on my bass guitar with Sharpie markers. I recently got a cheap hand me down bass guitar. (and no I'm just a beginner bass player) And I want to make it look awesome by drawing on it. And since I'm soooo excited about Sonic Lost World,releasing this October,I'm going to do something Sonic related. :p So stay tuned!

Camera set ups and upload times

Wow...took 4 hours to upload a 7'21 min video on YouTube. And I haven't upload the second video which is a little over 10 mins...these two videos only make up part one of me drawing. So it might be Thursday or Wednesday when before anyone can view the videos. I had trouble finding a way to set up the camera and tripod. I don't have a desk to draw on let alone to put a camera and tripod on. So I had to be creative...

I used my dresser drawer,this set up would have been prefect..but I don't draw so well standing up.

So I had to balance the camera and tripod on my lap while sitting on my bed drawing!

I was so nervous recording myself drawing,that I almost forgot how to draw and I was pouring down in sweat,and my hands were shakey! The video won't be narrated. I hope I can time lapse it.

Anyway, can wait to finished these videos...need I a faster internet connection. :p

Recording video this Tues.!

I will be recording a video of me drawing this Tuesday! I really got to psych myself up for this,a bit nervous,never record myself drawing before,well I did once but....anyway. My videos will be me drawing fan art mostly video game characters,no original characters.

I'm still drawing still life and human anatomy,and other drawing exercises. I'm just not posting them because they are not that interesting...but I have notice a improvement with in a week! 

These hands suck...though....

I've also been watching videos on story/script writing,learned a lot! Going have to rewatch them and take notes. Self-learning is so much fun,learning at my own pace and time is the best way for me.

My GofundMe campaign is over with. I have a cam to record videos. But I will be next week before I can test everything out to see if it will work. My husband's laptop is old and crappy,but I hope things will go well. I will be posting drawing videos,they won't be how to draw videos per-say just videos of me drawing....no fancy intros or nothing like that. I only have limited resources...  Well until then see you later...

The first steps

I have started my journey to become a better artist. I'm working on my anatomy studies. I will be watching Sycra's how to videos (he's a great artist and teacher!!!) and The Structure of Man dvds,that I brought back in 2007. They are kinda long and boring but very useful....It's 5 set dvd...I never made past the first dvd all the years that I owned the dvd set...I've to force myself to finish the first dvd...I can do it! I hope...

Pose Tool

I downloaded this neat little app from the App store. It's nice app to reference poses of the male and female figure. I will be using this app to study anatomy. 

This app is great for comic book,manga,anime and animation artists.

It's available on the App store,Google Play,and Amazon app store.

Back to the foundations!

I have started practicing the basic foundations of art/drawing. I'm working on my anatomy drawing. Won't be drawing fan art for awhile.

Live 2D

This looks interesting! Live 2D is a Japanese software that turns 2D drawings into 3D interactive animation for devices like tablets,smart phones and video and computer games. Pretty cool software I'm sure most people will use this to make visual novel games and dating sim games.

I don't think it's as powerful as Anime Studio Pro 9,when it comes to features,etc. I don't think Anime Studio can make interactive media. Live 2D is expensive too! But if you have a mobile game company or starting one,this software is worth a look!

My drawing style...

I'm trying to change my drawing style...but it's hard. My drawing style is anime style...which I have been drawing since 1997. So it's very hard for me to try and draw another style with without it being influenced by anime. Over a period of time my style has changed a little,(or a lot) I have been told my drawing style looks like a fusion of Disney and anime,while others say it's just anime style. I love the way Disney animator's draw...maybe some day I can draw like them.

All last year, I have been drawing from life or photos,and took a drawing 1 class in college,(but had to drop out,couldn't afford it..) I notice I learned a lot about lines and creating a 3d object on a flat piece of paper. I learned drawing is a lot like sculpting. Before I was only thinking about the lines. I was drawing and not thinking about the "3d" space the drawing was in!  

Sometimes I fall into my old habits...lol

When I looked at comic book artist or fantasy artist pencil works, I wonder how do they draw like that and why can't I ? They are using different line widths,and line stokes. Thin lines can be use for drawing details,and/or if the object/character is far. Thick/bold lines are use for shadows,or if the object/character close. 

One of my recent unfinished drawings.

Drawing a dark line and slow fading it to a light line,will make line appear to go off in the distance,and vesre-versa. I kinda knew all of this,but it didn't click with me until took that class.

I hope I will develop my style into something I'm more I'm happy with,but I think it will always be influenced by anime.

Anime Studio Pro 9?

7 years ago I discover an awesome animation software called Anime Studio Pro 5. I fell in love with it. Now, I'm not a big fan of cut out style/puppet animation,which is what you see done most of the time with Anime Studio. But I learned that the software can do much more then that.

The is a clip from the animated film La Reine Soleil,the animation was do in AS Pro 5. When I saw this, I had hope for my animation projects. I was also in college working on my finial project,about to graduate.
Here's my finial project,...it's embarrassing for me to watch it...at the time I was learning as I go,trying to finish up my project for a grade...Not very good animation at all,but I was proud of it at the time.

I had plans to work on an animated film,not based on the characters in the video. After I finished my project I had learned a lot...but still needed to learn more about the software and about the basics of animation...
But life happened...computer crashed and couldn't afford to get a new one....

I'm never going to start on the project,...long story short:
1.)A friend of mines was writing the script for free,but later on wanted me to pay him to countine to write the script...I couldn't pay him....I couldn't blame him for asking for money being low on cash and stuff...

2.)My computer crashed shortly after that..tried to save up but life happened...

Fast foward to 7 years later I learn of Anime Studio 9! Anime Studio Pro 9? Whoa, I been living under a rock for seven long years!!! lol

Artist block?

Here are some things you can do:

Draw from life

Take long walks/runs in the park

Take a local art lesson

Workout

Draw random crazy stuff!

Draw outside your comfort zone

Try different art mediums

Read a book

Try new hobbies

Force yourself to draw

Artist blocks can be a pain in the butt,I should know,I'm still on my 7 year artist block...but I found new hobbies like model kit building and painting, and miniature figure painting! I took a couple of art lessons and drew from life and learned a lot. My drawing skills improved a lot. But I still having been able to come up with new ideas for characters to draw. I use to write stories,even though I wasn't much of a writer. I would come up with ideas for a manga,an animated series or animated film...but now my creativity is drained,and now I don't even have resources to create an animated series or animated film,I have no PC that I can use to do those things....

Many,many,many times I give up on being an artist...I even falling into a deep depression. But something deep inside of me tells me not to give up. So I have been taking small baby steps...I have fallen a couple of times....but I just need to brush it off. Lately I have been obsessed with drawing Sonic the hedgehog,lol. I only been a fan for a month now! So I'll just roll with that for awhile.

Why I think the Modbook Pro is awesome!

If I could afford a Modbook Pro it would be a godsend gift! It a Macbook Pro built into a tablet PC and you can have  Windows and Mac OS running on it!The best of both worlds! Virtually run any software. 

Uh so why not get a Wacom Cintiq 22HD?

Yea it does cost a lot less! (still can't afford it) But I don't have a computer that can use it,just my husband's old piece of junk laptop...plus we live in a small apartment and would have room for that type of setup...

The Pro  has portability,all in one! Perfect for small living spaces,and if you're on the go! That's something you can't do with the Cintiq. 

Well,...you have an iPad...so you don't need a Modbook!

Are you kidding me?! That's like comparing a Prius to a Lamborghini! I'll take the Lamborghini please! 

The iPad is more catering toward casual artist, the Modbook Pro is more for serious artists!

I don't think I can afford one,not the way life is going...Maybe when I'm old and grey...
